In 1969, in Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, the first FIAP was set up with the objective of promoting and integrating advertising communications. The first editions were made in the City of Rosario, with the name of Hispanic Lusitanian American Festival and only Cinema and Television spots participated.

In 1969, in Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, the first FIAP was set up with the objective of promoting and integrating advertising communications. The first editions were made in the City of Rosario, with the name of Hispanic Lusitanian American Festival and only Cinema and Television spots participated.

As of 1977, the name changed to FIAP (Iberian American Advertising Festival) incorporating Print and Radio categories to the already existing Cinema and Television ones.

In its initial stage, it was an itinerant festival, until 1990, year in which Buenos Aires is declared permanent seat. Afterwards, and considering the growth and development of the US market, as of 1993, the Spanish speaking advertising of that country also participates. In 1999, Audiovisual Production Techniques and Internet/Website categories are created, and, in 2003, Innovation and Media are included.

Throughout the years, Design, Promo, Activation and Direct Marketing are incorporated.

In 2006, the first edition of Creative Teenagers Marathon is launched (today Creative Teenagers Triathlon) that gathers up to 28-year old professional duos from different markets of the region, to compete in a 24-hour term on the basis of a given brief.

In 2007, together with ADFEST (Asia) and Golden Drum (East Europe), the FIAP creates THE CUP, (www.thecupawards.com) the Advertising Intercontinental Cup that gathers the winners and finalists of each of the above mentioned festivals, adding the Art Directors’ Club as a guest.

In 2009, the FIAP presents the First Hall of Fame of Latin America, a tribute to the protagonists of communication in the region. Professionals, announcers, campaigns, that set the way and left a legacy.

In 2010, FIAP organizes the Circle of Circles, the first meeting of representative entities of Latin American creatives and, since then, it gathers year after year in FIAP festival.

In 2011, FIAP launches the Latin American Cup, an exclusive discipline of ideas, independently of the media in which they participate, awarded by a Jury that analyzes and debates live in front of the participating audience.

Also, in 2011, FIAP becomes the first festival that broadcasts live worldwide, the Gran Prix election.

Annually, around 8500 works compete in all categories and more than 2200 delegates from Latin America and the US participate, including countries not in the region.

FIAP’s seats throughout the years:

As of 1990, FIAP Festival is carried out annually, in the month of April, in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

As of 2012 and until 2014, the seat was transferred to the City of Miami.

In 2015, in its 46th Edition, the FIAP was carried out in Mexico City.
